V45.0120Readings in French Lit: Middle Ages & Early Modern Era In this course, students study some of the greatest works of French literature, from the Middle Ages to the end of the Ancien Régime in the 18th century. Works come from a wide variety of genres, among them romance and novel, short tale, theatre, lyric poetry, and essay. Writing in French is also an important part of this course. In fall 2008—as taught by Prof. Vitz —the course will also devote attention to issues related to the performance of literary works: the ways in which they were received and experienced by their audiences.
